A Note From Petra...

Module 1: Anatomy & Physiology
There are 15 simple, short, easy to follow lessons in this module, where we dive deep into the lymphatic system. By the end of the module you will understand the complexities of the lymphatics and how surgery affects fluid balance and funtioning of this amazing body system.
Module 2: The Wound Healing Process
In this module you will learn about the four stages of wound healing and the three different wound healing intentions. By the end of this module, you will have an understanding of the importance of the lymphatic system in this complex process and when it is safe to do a specific treatment on your patient.
Module 3: Scar Formation & Types of Scars
This module is a natural follow-on from the Wound Healing Process. Now that you understand what's involved in wound healing, you will learn how and why scars form the way they do and how your patient can optimise their scarring process.
Module 4: Fibrosis: What is it, How it Occurs, How to avoid it
Every therapist working with postop patients will encounter this phenomenon. But, why does it happen? And more importantly, how. By the end of the module you will have learned what fibrosis is, what contributes to it and how your patient can best avoid it.
Module 5: Getting to Know Plastic Surgery Procedures
Knowledge is power! And when you understand what each surgical procedure entails, you will understand the effect that procedure has on the body. This module gives you that insight, and by the end of the module, all the pieces will be clicking into place as your knowledge and understanding deepens.
Module 6: Complex & Common Complications
No surgery is straight-forward. Each procedure comes with it's risks. While surgeons take every precaution to avoid postoperative complications, it's important for you to understand the ones that can occur. By the end of the module, you will know which complications might occur and what to look out for.
Module 7: Compression
We take it for granted that patients wear compression after their surgery. But why is it important? How does it work? The module dives into the laws of pressure, how compression works and the effect it has on the skin, tissues, veins and of course the lymphatic system.
Module 8: Getting Ready For Your Patient
In this module, I share my recommendations for the various equipment you should have in your stock cupboard; from foam and K-Tape, to bolsters and padding. Plus, you get numerous template forms to download to adapt and use in your own practice.
Module 9: Treatment Protocols
Lymphatic drainage pathways change during and after surgery. So, it's important you know you're draining fluid in the right direction and not contributing to more lymphatic dysfunction. In this module you see demonstrations of MLD protocols, K-Taping and Fibrosis techniques.
