Meet Your Instructor - Petra Erving
With more than 20 years of hands-on experience, Petra has dedicated her career to raising the standards of care for postoperative clients.
Her clinical background spans two of London’s leading teaching hospitals, hospice care, private practice, and work in a prestigious plastic surgery clinic. Along the way, she has trained with some of the UK’s top experts in lymphoedema, lipoedema, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and venous care.
As the founder of The Aftercare Academy, Petra’s mission is simple: to equip therapists with the knowledge and confidence to safely support patients after cosmetic surgery. She believes that when therapists feel skilled and secure in their practice, patients receive the best possible outcomes.
Petra is known for her approachable teaching style, depth of clinical knowledge, and ability to connect complex surgical concepts with practical, hands-on therapy. Her workshops are not only NCBTMB-approved for 54.5 CE hours, but also trusted by surgeons who regularly collaborate with her to improve postoperative recovery.
“This training isn’t just about techniques — it’s about giving therapists the clarity and confidence to step into a specialist role, and be truly valued for it.”

From Uncertainty to Being Part of the Clinic Team
“Before attending the workshop, I avoided post-op clients because I wasn’t sure what was safe. Within weeks of completing the training, I was confident assessing patients, fitting compression, and adapting my MLD protocols.
The turning point came when a local plastic surgeon asked me to join his clinic as their in-house therapist. I feel proud to be part of the surgical care team and of the specialist care I now provide.”

From abdominoplasty to facelifts, depending on the clinic's operating list, you’ll see exactly what happens during procedures, with commentary from both the surgeon and Petra. Every observation links directly back to your hands-on practice, helping you understand why your role is vital to recovery.
This unique element is what sets our training apart — a once-in-a-career opportunity to connect theory with real surgical practice.
